PurpleKAT films was created to promote cross-cultural understanding across global audiences. Based in Barcelona, Spain and Bangalore, India, we work with clients to create films rooted in storytelling which spark educational dialogue and span a variety of languages including English, Spanish, Catalan, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada.
Our work encompasses a wide range of content from documentaries and fiction films to digital and branded content across a variety of fields including but not limited to arts, culture, social initiatives, science and technology and sports. We strive to embrace new workflows and technologies and incorporate AI to achieve maximum efficiency and analytics to inform our branded/digital content.
In addition to our in-house Productions, we collaborate on projects as a producer, writer or editor and are available to consult on films. We also teach film production workshops at educational institutions, artist spaces, and women-led organizations in pursuit of our mission to empower more women and youth to create films.

Kodhai Thirumalai is a filmmaker, Bharatanatyam and salsa dancer, and impressionist painter, motivated by creating work that highlights diverse history, culture, traditions, arts and social issues and solutions. Raised in Bangalore, India and having lived in cities in the United States and Barcelona, Spain, she brings an international perspective to her work, striving to challenge existing narratives.
Kodhai holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Digital Media production and a certification in Documentary filmmaking, and welcomes the opportunity to collaborate on a wide variety of projects of differing styles and needs. As a working director, writer, producer, cinematographer and editor, she brings with her a wide skillset, ready to carry a project from inception to completion.
